Blow Up - Pool Valley - Creation Records CRE049T

This stems from that initial post-Upside Down Creation Records boom period. When things got bigger but before they went Mental. This is Blow-Up's second single and it's named for the main bus station in Brighton. The place Martha's Mega Bus to Brighton was no doubt headed. Appropriately enough this is being posted from a bus. At the time Blow-Up featured singer Nick Roughley, drummer Chris... Windows(?), bassist Aziz Hashmix and guitarist Alan Stirner, late of fellow Brighton band Whirl and future member of The Wolfhounds. It's solid late 80s indie rock. The main title is catchy as all get out. Enjoy.

Boris The Sprinkler - Male Model - Bulge Records 7" - Bulge 2.

There should be some kind of vetting process bands go through before they are allowed to cover the music of certain acts. Boris the Sprinkler would definitely hit the right notes for covering Undertones. Loud, punchy, melodic and devoted. Best of all they have the good sense to leave the classics alone (Teenage Kicks should only ever be tackled as a drunken encore) and take their cue from this minor b-side.

Released on Bulge in 1995 with two of their own songs on the flip this is pretty enjoyable and can still be picked up for peanuts. Another post written on and sent from the 135 bus. Enjoy.

The Hentchmen - Red Hot Car - Hillsdale Records 7". HR-11.

Another one on Johnny (Saturn V feat Orbit, Phantom Surfers, Ogres) Bartlett's excellent Hillsdale Records. The Henchmen have been around for nearly as long as Johnny and they are still going. This is their fourth single, from 1994 and features their trademark stompin' 60s garage sound. You already know pretty much what it's going to sound like but they do it so well you'll find yourself knocking back a strong one and coming back for more. Enjoy.

The Statics - Sooprize Package - Real Records 7" - Real 001.

Well, yeah heh! Finally a new post! It's not that I don't have tons of this stuff lined up and ready to go, it's more that I can't find anything to say about it. And you probably don't care about that. You just want the punk rock. The tunes! And I can't blame you. I'd be exactly the same. So, I've stuck the blogger app on my tablet and on my phone and I've added a load of draft posts without text so that I can up new posts whenever I get bored. I'm writing this on the top deck of a bus on my way home from work. That kind of thing.

So, The Statics. This came free with the first issue of Sooprize Package zone, which was published on the south coast of England. It's exactly what you would expect of The Statics covering Supercharger. Sparks do fly. From what I recall, the flipside is an instrumental. Either way, it's good shit. Launched from a bus. Enjoy.

The Nomads - She Pays The Rent - Swan 12 TNMS66.

A Scandinavian super-smasher that has that fantastic MC5 horn sound so successfully co-opted by Rocket From The Crypt in later days. This 12" (twelve inch!) was released in 1985 across a number of 'territories'. This is the one released by Wire records in the UK. The a-side, 'She Pays The Rent' is a revved-up version of a song originally written and performed by The Lyres. The first track on the flip is a Scandinavian take on Chan Romero's 'My Little Ruby' which is followed by a Nomads original, 'Nitroglycerine Shrieks'. Enjoy.

T.S.O.L. - Man and Machine - Posh Boy PBS 24 - 1990.

Early T.S.O.L. reissued through Posh Boy in 1990. I'll be honest, I know basically fuck all about these tracks. There's a version of Peace Thru' Power on the band's second LP. And Man and Machine features on the band's Alternative Tentacles released Weathered Statues EP. Whatever, whatever. It's good early stuff. Enjoy.

Walter Daniels, Oblivians & Msr. Jeffrey Evans - At Melissa's Garage - Undone Records 10" - UR 0008-10. 1995.

Originally released on limited 10” in 1995 on the Undone label, these tracks were later reissued as part of the Melissa’s Garage Revisited LP on Sympathy For The Record Industry four years later (and bolstered by four tracks from an Oblivians-infused ’68 Comeback 7”). This is a vinyl rip of the original ten. It features all three Oblivians, Monsieur Jeffrey Evans (Gibson Bros, 68 Comeback) and Walter Daniels (Jack O’Fire and a billion other acts). The five tracks feature here were also bootlegged on the ’17 Cum Shots’ release. Which is cumming soon. Enjoy.

Dorotea - EP2: It's Happening Again - Zenith Recordings - Zenith 7 - 2003

Uniting both sides of my stupid brain - small scale DIY pop and rocking guitar action! - Dorotea were a band from Sweden who were mainly active at the beginning of the 21st Century. When I was paying literally no attention. Fortunately, they reformed to play at Indietracks in 2014 - three men and a drum machine - where they blew me away. The songs are short (sometime very), fast (mostly) and catchy (always). They do not outstay their welcome. Their output was very limited - two EPs (I bought this one from them at Indietracks) and one CD-only LP (FFS!). It's basic, impassioned stuff. Enjoy.

Various - The Boss Instrumentals EP. Romulan Records UFOX22.

Two years too late for material that's already fifty years out of sync with the real world. Four obscure B-sides from the swinging sixties. The stuff of legend. And what about  those Monster A Go Go LPs being reissued for Record Shop Day this year? Normally I'd say, hands off, let the new stuff through to the pressing plants, but at least they're rare and maybe slowed the relentless tide of vinyl reissues of stuff you can get cheaper secondhand (Bowie, Prince, Phil Collins*).

*Just seeing if I can bump him off by association.
