Various Artists - Unreleased Instrumentals from the Northwest! Hillsdale Records EP. HR005.

Some vintage tracks this time. Unreleased instrumentals finally unleashed on vinyl via Johnny 'Big Hands' Bartlett's Hillsdale label. I won't say much as there are sleeve notes to read. It must be noted, however, that the 'crackle' on 'Plastic Coat' is on the original. Taking the phrase 'slightly worn' to new limits. Enjoy.

Jack O'Fire - 'Cool'. No Lie Records 7". NL-002.

A nice smart package from Austin's No Lie records. The sleeve is silk-screened and the scan doesn't really do it justice. The record, another great from the Texan kings of the cover version, features a rattling version of Wire's pink punk classic 12XU. Enjoy.

Man Or Astro-Man? - Deluxe Men In Space. Touch and Go / One Louder EP.

Inside left.
Inside right.
Mid-period Astro-Man? from the time they started to flirt with the more experimental side of their sound - March of the Androids and Rhombics may be short (both clock in at under a minute) but they demonstrate a new side to the Man or Astro-Man? sound that was further exploited in their later releases. The rest of the tracks are classic Man or Astro-Man? including a cover of U-Uranus that has my kids in fits. Enjoy.

X-Ray Spex - Oh Bondage Up Yours. Virgin VS 18912. RIP Poly Styrene.

A rarity for this blog - a 12" single. And one of those pointless 12" singles; no crappy extra tracks, no super-slap bass jazz funk needlessly extended versions, just two tracks. Just like the 7". From September 1977 and in acknowledgement of the passing of Poly Styrene.

The Go-Nuts - Go Nuts With The Go-Nuts. Estrus Records 7". ES753.

The first release from the band who would go on to be The World's Greatest Super Hero Snak Rock and Gorilla Entertainment Revue. Here, they are merely America's Premier Superhero Food Band. And a three-piece. Korn Dog joined later. This features the first appearance of the celebrated Go Nuts Theme. Enjoy.

The Primate 5 - She Cleans House. Rat City Records 7". RC-04.

Another garage band, another set of monkey masks. I thought this lot had a connection with The Statics beyond the label this is on, but not according to Grunnen Rocks. Enjoy.

The Gories - Gimme Some Money. Sub Pop Singles Club. Sub Pop SP134.

There were 4,500 copies of this pressed, according to Grunnen Rocks. Could this be The Gories best-selling single? A guaranteed market from Singles Club sales alongside eager bystanders like myself? Who knows? Anyway, that's enough questions. First post for a fortnight, but I have been busy busy busy so there's going to be a lot more of this stuff coming your way. Enjoy.
