The Fingers - The First Time / Barracuda. Budget Rock Showcase 7". 1991.

For my good friend Anonymous, who liked Melons on Melrose so much he (or she, but much more likely to be he based on years of scientific research and analysis into this sort of thing by me and the rest of the scientific community) became this blog's very own Oliver Twist by asking for more. More Fingers. Ouch! And here it is.  My first Fingers single. The one that ruined me for all other garage bands.

The Fingers - The First Time / Barracuda. Budget Rock Showcase 7". 1991.

By the way, if you like this shit, tell your friends. I'm feeling kind of lonely.

  1. recorded as part of a roadtrip to san francisco with our band sucks that also included a show with the mummies and ed hall. full story of the trip recounted in an issue of pure filth. this was originally supposed to be a split with OBS, who recorded "monster mash" and "bikini bash" the same day, but trent thought the tracks sucked, so he instead released it as a one-sided single with a "laser etch" made with a nail on the flipside....

  2. Cheers for the info, Mr. Tumors. Can't say I like the idea of covering The Monster Mash myself. Was any Our Band Sucks material ever released? I can't recall ever seeing any.

  3. though not really part of the trash rock end of the spectrum, OBS were part of the small cluster of bands loosely affiliated with pure filth magazine, and was actually the band that inspired shane and ralph to start the mag after seeing one of our sets (we regularly pelted audiences with popcorn, silly string, beer and shaving cream back then, which made for fun for the entire family). shane was an old bandmate of mine and i thought he'd enjoy the chaos, so i invited him and there you go.....anyway, OBS recorded a demo back in 90, which was then released as an EP by nemesis records a couple of years later, after i got sacked from the band. the proposed split that resulted in the fingers first single was also supposed to be OBS' second release, but as i mentioned prior, trent thought the tracks sucked, so they got shitcanned and the split became a single with a "laser etch."..... OBS released a second EP, "pic 'n' save," last year, which can be found at all the usual download store places, and we're almost finished with our first full-length.....here's a link to the video (pieced together with footage of the band shot over the past two decades) for the title track of the most recent OBS EP:

some things to look out for in the video include jason and ralph from the fingers in the groping and slamming in the crowd shots and ralph's hairy ass making a cameo appearance midway through.

dunno if you have a copy of it, but another fingers-related recording to track down is the chainsaw blues (the band before they morphed into the fingers) demo, which was recorded around the same time and the same way (in tito's garage on kerine elkin's karaoke machine) as the "melons on melrose" EP was recorded, and has different versions of the tunes on that record, except with tito on vocals. the tune "blue balls" alone is worth the hunt -- six minutes, one chord, total agonizing monotony......
